Notebooks with alcohol ink covers / Алкогольные блокноты / BLOG HOP

ENG Dear guests! Congrats on the first day of Autumn! Today I would like to show you three notebooks with mixed media covers. I used texture paste, lots of alcohol inks, and stamps to create those. At the end of this post, you can view a small tutorial on how I color such covers.
Please don´t forget to visit the blogs of other DT members of the Mini Album Makers challenge blog to see much more inspiring projects and tutorials! It is our Blogaversary month! And play along with us, because our September challenge is now open :)

This is what you need to create such covers:

  • a piece of cardboard (mine is 2 mm wide)
  • a piece of white cotton in the same size as the cardboard
  • some soft matte gel (or any other acrylic medium) and a brush
  • a stencil, a palette knife and a jar of white texture paste
  • alcohol inks (I use Ranger) and a bottle of alcohol (or alcohol ink blender)
  • a heat gun in case you want to speed up the drying process
  • optional: black stamping ink, background stamps, black liner

First apply some soft matte gel (PVA, medium) onto the cardboard. Then stick the textile on top of it and cover it again with soft matte gel (primer, gesso). When the surface is dry, apply some texture with your palette knife through the stencil. Let it dry completely.

Color the surface step by step using your chosen alcohol inks. Make them flow and blend by spraying some pure alcohol or pouring special alcohol ink blender onto the surface. You can also use water but try not to wet the surface too much. Water does make the inks flow but also dims the colors somewhat when dry.

After the surface is dry, you can add some doodling with a black liner. I draw around the texture in order to emphasize it. Then I add some text stamps (or any other background stamps) with black StazOn. In the end, I add some paint splatter using dark and white inks.
